Direct Investments representing Pi's strategy

1. Just and inclusive transition to a sustainable future

PosiGen is a Louisiana-based residential solar and energy efficiency installer that is breaking new ground in democratizing access to solar power.  PosiGen has re-designed the entire process by which solar is sold, installed and financed, to better fit the needs of low income households. As a result, while the residential solar industry as a whole tends to serve more affluent customers, over 70% of PosiGen's customers are low-income households (while most of the workforce comes from the same communities as well).

We view PosiGen's model as playing a crucial role in dispelling the myth that solar is only for affluent environmentalists.

2. Democratizing wealth and power

Liberty and Justice is Africa's first Fair Trade Certified apparel manufacturing company. Unlike enterprises that focus solely on job creation, Liberty and Justice has an explicit emphasis on asset-building for low-income women. Pi appreciates the company's unique ownership structure in which 49% of shares in the Liberian entity are directly owned by the women who work there, and provides them and their families with extensive educational opportunities and matched savings accounts. Additionally, unique trade advantages for Africa under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) support the company’s growth strategy.
